What are its key dogmas?
How does it contradict Christianity?

Quimby 1850, Mary Baker Eddy 1875
Writings: Used the writings of Hegel, Kant, Eastern
philosophy and Quimby. Today their text is called “Science
and Health.”
Distinctives:
1. Mary Baker Eddy supposedly “rediscovered” the healing
principles that the apostles used because they had been lost after
the death of the apostles.
2. The physical body is not real, only spirit is real. This is what
Gnosticism in the first few centuries taught. Similar to Buddhist
philosophy.
3. God is spirit, nothing is matter. There is nothing else besides
God.
4. Life, truth and love constitute the triune person of God.
5. God the Father / Mother, Christ the spiritual idea of son-ship,
the Comforter (H.S.) is Divine Science.
6. Jesus is the human man and Christ is the divine idea.
7. Jesus’ physical existence is of no significance. Jesus
never really died, so he did not need to be raised from the dead.
8. Jesus was the offspring of Mary’s self-conscious union
communion with God.
9. Jesus continues in the Divine Science as spirit.
10. The real man is incapable of sin; sickness and death are the
effects of error. The opposite of truth is error. Error is sin error
is sin, sickness and disease. Christ came to destroy the belief
of sin.
11. Jesus revealed that we are one with the Father.
12. There is no sacrifice that is able to atone. To atone you must
stop sinning. Never admit that sin can have intelligence, power,
pain or pleasure. You conquer error by denying its existence.
13. There is no real hell or final judgment, sin makes its own hell
and goodness is its own heaven.
Death is an illusion, the lie of life is matter. The body cannot
die because matter has no life. If a person does not progress after
death, but remains in error, he would inevitable self-annihilate.
14. Satan does not exist.
