To Assyria
Jonah 780 means dove / peace. During the reign of Jeroboam II. Why was Jonah in the belly of the fish 1:17? Because of a nation’s disobedience. Jesus quotes Jonah in reference to him being in the grave for 3 days like Jonah (Mat.12:39-42). Why? Because of an evil and adulterous nation. Nineveh, Assyria repents, but is eventually destroyed. 40 years later Assyria is used by God to chastise Israel and Jonah knew it, this is why he didn’t want to go. Just like with Jesus, 40 yrs after His death, in 70ad Rome is used by God to judge Israel.
